What is Enterprise Education

The simple answer to the question is, "taking an enterprise approach to teaching, encouraging all young people to learn and develop in a way that meets their needs."

Enterprising learning and teaching enables all young people to develop enterprising skills, attitudes and creative approaches to learning right across the curriculumn.

Enterprise at St Cuthbert’s RC Business and Enterprise College is continually being embedded into the curriculum.  All students are involved in enterprise activities, during everyday classroom learning and through specific enterprise focused events, organised both in house and by external agencies. We believe that by embedding enterprise into St Cuthbert’s curriculum it has enabled all pupils to develop many enterprising skills and qualities such as risk taking, organisation, independent learning, team working, problem solving, innovation, creativity, financial awareness and many more.  Students have grown both personally and academically. Through this initiative pupils are learning to become empowered and to take greater responsibility for their actions. We believe that by continually emphasising and reinforcing these capabilities within each subject area we are empowering all pupils to become active, responsible citizens.

Enterprise at St Cuthbert’s includes knowledge and understanding of the world of work and career planning and opportunities to engage in entrepreneurial activities, as well as the development of enterprising attitudes and skills which enable our pupils to become successful learners, confident individuals and effective contributors to society throughout life and at work, with an informed sense of their roles in the world.

Our pupils are also helped to develop those personal qualities and leadership skills essential for the world of work. Through enterprising activities in their education experiences, both in and out of the classroom, they may be given opportunities to demonstrate leadership, initiative, determination, confidence and responsibility.

Enterprise activities with social goals, where outcomes not only benefit others but also encourage a sense of responsibility to the community and society as a whole, help our pupils to understand the connections between enterprise and active citizenship.

Enterprise education is not a subject it is a whole school approach to learning that should be reflected in everything that our pupil experiences. Enterprise should be visible in how learning takes place, the way we work as a college and in how we relate to our community.

Enterprise education at St Cuthbert’s includes;

Learning for enterprise: developing the attitudes and skills of the entrepreneur through a rich and varied curriculum.

Learning through enterprise: engaging our pupils in authentic and meaningful entrepreneurial experiences.

Learning about enterprise: raising the aspirations of our pupils and promoting understanding of the role of enterprise in society.
