  DISCIPLINE AND BEHAVIOUR

Our approach to behaviour and responsibility in guiding pupils follows from our aims as a Catholic School. Each pupil is expected to behave in a way that shows respect and consideration for self, for others and for property. Very high standards are demanded of them in the effort to achieve this and the school uses a system of rewards and sanctions to help pupils learn how to improve. Rewards vary within different year groups and departments, and include Certificates of Achievements and every effort is made to comment on examples of good behaviour and helpfulness and to praise pupils for their work.

When pupils need to be corrected for bad behaviour, again there are a number of different sanctions used, such as detention at break time. When there is concern about serious and/or prolonged misbehaviour, parents will be asked to discuss the problem with us. In extreme cases pupils may be excluded from school, in which case the parents will always be informed. Corporal punishment is not used in school.
The guidelines which are issued to pupils are as follows and this code constitutes our set of school rules.

  • To show consideration for others and obey staff at all times.

  • To respect the environment, school property and the property of other pupils.

  • To display responsible behaviour when travelling to and from school.

  • To have good attendance and punctuality - all absences should be explained with a note on the day of return.

  • To remain on the school site during the day, unless the Head of Year has given permission.

  • To be on time for registration and lessons, with all the equipment you need.

  • To wear full school uniform and have it marked with your name.

  • To ensure no make-up, extreme hairstyles or jewelry are worn - a small stud is allowed in each ear for those with pierced ears. No other body piercing is allowed.

  • To leave expensive and dangerous items at home.

  • Chewing gum is forbidden.

These guidelines are a general framework for all pupils. They are not designed to cover all eventualities and may be subject to amendment at any time. Responsibility for determining satisfactory standards and modes of behaviour rests with the Headteacher.
